Locking Your Computer
Please remember to secure your computer when it is not in use. Whenever you walk away from your computer, whether it's to the office or just across your classroom, it is recommended that you LOCK your computer. To LOCK your workstation, do the following:

  • Click on LOCK COMPUTER

That's it! Your computer will now be locked and no one, other than you, will be able to use this computer. To UNLOCK the computer, do the following:
WINDOWS VISTA
  • Simultaneously press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys on your keyboard
  • Type in your password

When you LOCK your workstation, it does not close any programs you currently have open or running. This is simply a way to protect your computer and your computer account.

REMINDER #3
Saving to Your H-Drive (Home Directory)
It is very important to save any work you do on your computer to your personal Home Directory, or H-drive. Saving your work to your H-drive will ensure that, if something happens to your computer, all of the work you have saved in your H-drive will not be lost. In addition, you can logon to any computer in the district and access your H-drive and anything saved in it.

TO SAVE TO YOUR H-DRIVE:
This can be done from any program you are working in (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.).
WINDOWS VISTA
  • When you are ready to save your work, click on FILE>SAVE AS.
  • The SAVE AS box will open. By default, the programs usually want to save to your "My Documents." To change this, click on the down arrow to the right of the box that says My Documents.
  • Click once with your left mouse button on your H-drive (ex: your username - jdoe on 'admin-filefvs...'). This will allow you to save the file into your H-drive.
  • Name your document in the File Name: box.
  • Click once with your left mouse button on SAVE to save the document in your H-drive.

REMINDER #4
Time to Change Your Password!

District policy requires every staff member to change his or her password, for security reasons, every 999 days.  If you do not change your password, it will expire.

If you do not change your password before it expires, you will not be able to logon to any district computer or your email using OWA 2007.

Please Note:  Your password can only be changed using a district computer.  It cannot be changed using OWA from any computer inside or outside the district.

If you allow your password to expire, you must contact the Technology Helpdesk at 5518 and we will reset it for you.
