MISSION STATEMENT
The Special Education Department is committed to the academic and social development of all students with special needs.  This is accomplished through a team approach in evaluation and determining the individual needs of each student.

WHAT IS SPECIAL EDUCATION?
Historically, the Roseville Community Schools has long considered Special Education services to be an integral part of its total educational commitment.  Programs for handicapped students began in 1954 and have continued to expand and become more comprehensive.

Today, almost 1000 students are receiving Special Education services in Roseville Community Schools.

The Special Education Department helps to facilitate academic and social success for students with special needs.  Using the "team" approach, brings professionals with a variety of expertise together to plan an individualized program for each student.  These professionals may include a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, School Administrator, Teacher Consultant, Special and General Education Teachers.

To receive Special Education services, a student must be identified and found eligible after a comprehensive evaluation to be certified in one or more of the following areas:
LD Learning Disabled
EI Emotionally Impaired
CI Cognitively Impaired
SXI Severely Multiply Impaired
SMI Severely Mentally Impaired
TMI Trainable Mentally Impaired
HI Hearing Impaired
AI Autistic Impaired
SLI Speech and Language Impaired
ECDD Early Childhood Developmental Delay
VI Visually Impaired
POHI Physically or Otherwise Health Impaired
