VISION STATEMENT
Eastland Elementary School is committed to the development of every student in the progression of realizing his or her full potential.  In order to fulfill this obligation, we will afford our students with numerous educational and social opportunities that will assist them in solving problems, making rational decisions, and achieving higher levels of independence, cooperation, and responsibility.  This will be consummated through challenging learning objectives in the content areas of english/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, intellectual, and emotional growth of every child.  Essentially, our aspiration is to provide a safe, welcoming, and challenging atmosphere for learning where all children will be encouraged and expected to strive for their very best.

BELIEFS

All children can learn.

Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, intellectual needs.

All students must engage in , learn, and apply appropriate use of technology in order to better prepare themselves for the 21st Century.

Erudition is a continuous process for all students.

Learning should be multicultural, multidimensional, engaging, and geared towards promoting creativity.

Critical thinking and problem solving are essential components to a child's cognitive and met cognitive development.

All students deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Students are responsible for their own actions, behavior, and learning.

All students should have an opportunity to make their own choices.

Communication is an essential component to a healthy school/home relationship.

Students must share in the responsibility for their own learning by coming to school prepared to learn.

MEET MR. WIGHTMAN...

Mr. Shawn K. Wightman has  been working in the profession of education for over twelve years as a regular classroom teacher, assistant principal, Title 1/Section 31 a Coordinator, and Instructional Specialist.  Presently, he is working on his Doctorate Degree of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction at Wayne State University.  He has Education Specialist degree in General Administration & Supervision, Masters of Arts in Teaching, and he has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Group Minors.  He feels that his knowledge and experience in curriculum development, assessment, school improvement processes, and educational background have all prepared him for this very important administrative role.  

  During his spare time, he enjoys reading, writing, watching movies, swimming, and visiting with family and friends.
